Yoann
Merienne
Born in 1987 in Sallanches, Yoann Merienne lives and works in Lyon. He won the gold medal of the international artistic competition of Wallonia at thirteen, trained as an industrial designer, and — after a year in Australia — turned entirely to painting and sculpture.
His work builds figures out of folded, torn, reassembled matter: warriors, walkers, nymphs and imaginary creatures drawn from a world that runs parallel to ours. What is at stake in it is the awareness of our own finitude — the survival instinct, ambition, pride, and the fear of falling short.
